From addict to author
During the early years of sobriety, I was inspired to put pen to paper to write a book on all the practical lessons and experiences that have kept me strong, and most importantly kept me sober. Little did I know that what I shared in the pages of the book would be used to help so many people. Whenever I think about the lives that have been impacted by the book, it truly humbles me to know that God has used an ordinary guy like me to write a book that has helped so many people change their lives. In the world’s eyes, I am just an ex-addict, but in Gods eyes, I am who He says I am, and God says as children of God we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Yes You Can
Yes You Can Overcome Addiction was my first book, and also the beginning of many books that I have authored over the years. It is filled with all my first-hand real-life experiences and the practical principles that helped me stay sober all these years. It can help anyone get on the road of recovery, and more importantly it can help lead anyone to a completely changed life!
The book is also a source of useful practical information for anyone wanting to help someone else who has an addiction.
You can make a difference
Over the years I’ve had the opportunity and the privilege to encourage many people, which is something that I’m really passionate about. There is no greater fulfilment knowing that you are impacting people and helping them change their lives. The awesome thing about it is, anyone can make a difference. No matter where you are from, no matter where you live, or no matter where you find yourself right now, you can make a positive contribution to society and leave the world in a better place than when you found it.
My story in a nutshell
Yes You Can is where my journey as an author began. If you would like to hear a bit more about my story you can check out the “about page” and I’m sure you will be encouraged and inspired to live the best life that you possibly can.
As the old saying goes; “start where you are, use what you have, do what YOU CAN!”
Below is a brief history and photo gallery over the years.
- In 2021 I was invited to a live book review interview at the Articulate Africa Books and Art Fair, hosted by the Ethekweni Parks, Recreation and Culture unit during April.
- In 2020 the Gauteng Education department purchased 234 copies for distribution into the schools within the province. They also awarded me an official suppliers’ designation.
- In 2017 Yes You Can was selected to participate in the eThekwini One City One Book campaign that is run annually to promote local authors.
- During the 2017 campaign I was invited to sit on the discussion panel at the One City One Book event with over 200 people in attendance.
- In 2016 the book was selected as one of the top 10 featuring books on Loot, which is one of the largest online platforms in South Africa.
- Copies have been distributed into the Westville correctional facility in Durban, and it has made a significant impact in the lives of many of the prisoners.
- Copies have also been distributed into local schools and rehabilitation centres within the Durban and surrounding areas, and inspired many to overcome their addictions.
Scholar testimony
A school in the Kwadukuza area put a few copies of the book into their school library. One of the scholars in grade 8 who was heavily addicted to drugs read the book and it changed his life. He stopped using drugs and started using the contents of the book to help his friends.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out, great to connect with you! Thank you for the encouragement!
I was tired of living my life so lost. So I came here, and it changed my whole outlook on life!
I love myself more, I’m more energetic and positive.
It’s not all about me anymore. The groups are a learning experience
with counselor’s who know what they are talking about because they’ve been thru it
already. I owe it a lot to them, because of them I get to keep my
family!
