The life you are living today is the sum total of the decisions you made yesterday… and the day before… and the day before that…
Life is about making decisions, and you have to consistently make decisions every day. Some will affect your immediate responsibilities. Some will affect your life long-term, and some will even affect your life without you even realizing it!
From the time you wake up in the morning you are making decisions. When the alarm goes off, the first decision you make is whether you will get up or hit the snooze button and stay in bed.
I’m sure you can relate to the time when you made the decision to hit the snooze button and stayed in bed. The alarm may have gone off again and you hit the snooze button a second time. The next thing you know it’s 45 minutes past wake-up time and you are going to be late!
You clamber out of bed and scramble for the shower. You quickly pull on your crinkled clothes. You grab your reports, and stuff everything into your laptop bag. You grab your jacket and start looking for your car keys. You jump into the car, and you’re off! Half way you realize you left your cell phone at home. You get to the office and everyone is already calmly heading to the boardroom. Your heart is racing, confidence levels are low. You are feeling agitated and frustrated. The meeting begins and you realize you left your USB at home with your report on it! Hello world! The day has just begun! Everything fell apart because of one decision to hit the snooze button!
The above story may seem a bit dramatic, but a simple choice to hit the snooze button can have a knock-on effect over a day, a week, a year or even over a few years. Good choices can take you forward, bad choices can create stress and problems.
A key to making good decisions is to align your decisions with your goals. Ask yourself if what you are doing will move you forward, or hinder you? When you can answer that question with clarity you will make more good decisions than bad ones, because your decisions will line up with what you want to achieve.
Snooze buttons are often dress up in excuses and poor discipline. Determination, dedication and focus will create discipline, which eliminates the snooze buttons and helps you develop a just do it attitude in everything you do!
Decision making can be hard, however the better you become at aligning your decisions with your goals, the easier it will be to choose your hard…
Regret is hard, discipline is hard, choose your hard.
Procrastination is hard, self-motivation is hard, choose your hard.
Life is short, and you only have one chance to get it right, and there are no do overs at the end of your life. You must turn snooze buttons into just do it buttons and approach each day as if it were your last!
Don’t snooze it… just do it!
