In my personal opinion, this book is one of “the best” all time classics that every Christian should read. It shouldn’t be read just once, it should be read at least once every few years. I’ve read this book 3 times and every time I read it, it inspires me and challenges me to never forget the basics of my daily walk with God. Everyone wants to do great things, but great things are found in doing small things well.
Ps Rick takes a look at the life of King David, one of the Bible’s greatest hero’s. David’s life serves as a powerful example of how God prepares, and then uses His servants to accomplish great exploits. Through Davids life God shows us that His preparation and the lessons that we learn are far more important than what we accomplish for Him. Every believer will spend time in preparation as God leads them to the fulfillment of His destiny for their lives. Preparation can be challenging, but it is necessary for character development.
This book provides some great insight into the different stages of development and how to recognize, and deal with these stages along the way. You will learn some great biblical historical facts and how they apply to our modern day lives today. Ps Rick gives profound examples of the different cities that David journey too, and what they represented in his spiritual life. He shows us how those places still bear the same significance for us today.
Once you start reading this book you will see how your approach to life in the natural has a massive impact on your spiritual life, and relationship with God.
We cannot experience the fullness of Gods spiritual blessing if we neglect the natural part of our lives.
There is a process that carried Jesus into all authority, and we are subject to that same process. Legally, a believer begins to rule and reign in Christ at the moment of salvation, but experientially it is a process. God takes every Christian through steps of maturity, building character and skill into us as we go along, and He gives us more and more ruling responsibility as we grow up in Him. God is more interested in the production of character than the provision of comfort!
One of the Old Testament saints who passed through these stages of development and submitted his life to the Lord in each one was David. He lived in four places – Bethlehem, Adullam, Hebron and Zion – and each of them represented a specific lesson we believers must learn in order to rule and reign in Christ.
If we skip any of these destinations that represent putting certain scriptural principles to work in our lives to achieve spiritual maturity, we won’t make it. We can’t ignore these things if we want to fulfill all that God has called us to be.
But if we submit ourselves to Him in them as David did, then the church will truly show forth His glory, conquering strongholds of the enemy that no previous generation of believers has been able to bring down!
