16 years ago when I stepped out of that rehabilitation center I was ready to make a radical change in my life, but to be honest I don’t think I completely understood what it mean to let go of the past. The first few months I worked really hard at making amends and righting wrongs where I could. At times the progress was very slow.
Eventually I reached a point where I realized that there were just somethings in my past that I couldn’t change, and the more I tried, the more frustrated I became. This is where the serenity prayer became more real to me.
We have all made mistakes and messed up, and I encourage you to make right where you can, however you can’t spend the rest of your life living in the past. Sometimes correcting past mistakes time, and sometimes you just have to be patient and wait for the right opportunity to do so.
Instead of focusing on my mistakes I began to live each day with great expectation for God to do something great with with my life, and trusted God to help me make amends where I could.
Correcting the errors of the past is a process. So while you busy with the process why not focus on building a great future, and when the opportunity comes to make amends you can deal with it and move on. Instead of wasting valuable time trying to fix your past, just allow the process to unfold naturally.
Don’t waste time living in the past when there is a wonderful future awaiting you. As the old saying goes, “ you can’t drive a car looking in the rear view mirror, because you ain’t going that way!” So accept was was.. embrace what is.. and have faith in the awesome future God has for you in Jesus name! #yesyoucan
